Bye bye and see ya soon!

Love,

Sassy Gal

the winds are still blowin’ and change is a-comin’, i promise, but until then……

So, I’m still workin’ some thangs out, but we should be up and running with our new surprise in the next day or two!  I just want to run around and squeal like a scalded cat every time I think of what fun is coming.

Until then, I’ve been dyin’ to share this with y’all.  What with late nights spent trying to move Bloggy ‘Hoods, well, it’s been a little exhausting.  But, I got my second wind and thought I’d let you know…..

I’ve got a little crush.

DRESSES.

That’s right.  I can’t get enough of The Dress this Spring/Summer.

And I bought THREE dresses in the past few weeks.  Me thinks dresses are sooo divine.

First, from Old Navy.  $24.50, YES MA’AM…..who could resist?  AND, IT HAS POCKETS.  Oh, sister, yes it does.  Perfect for those kids snotty nose rags that seem to magnetize to me  summer lip balms and fab sunglasses.

Secondly, my Easter dress (it has polka dots) this year complete with the yellow cardigan…..Tarjay, honey, for $24.99.  SHOUT HALLELUJAH!

Product Image

And, from gap.com for $54.99 (and I used a 20% off coupon!  Holla!)

So, these are my new Spring/Summer wardrobe additons.  I plan on using the shorts/shirts from last year and sprucin’ ‘em up with some new, CHEAP jewelry.

I am hunting a chunky, yellow necklace….similar to this….

Season changes are so fun!

What’s your fashion crush right now????

Love,

Happy Resurrection Weekend

By Your wounded side and nail-scarred hands
You reveal to me Redemption’s Plan
I begin to see Your heart towards man
How you died for me so I could stand in You.

The Cross of Calvary
It stands for victory
It stands eternally
For all to see.

The Cross of Calvary
Has made a way for me.
And set this captive free
To honor Thee.

By your stripes
I have been healed.
-from the CD Journey of My Heart by Kelly Wilkerson

easter2007

Each year, Easter seems to take on a different meaning for me.  This year is no exception.

When I assess my journey this past year, I know it’s been the hardest ever.   But, it’s also been the best.  We’ve encountered heartache and difficulty.  But, we’ve also found unspeakable peace, freedom, and joy.  Given and received forgiveness.  And grasped a small understanding of what Freedom in Christ truly means.

What I love about knowing Jesus and trusting Him is that I don’t have to “be perfect” or “do enough” .  God LONGS to have relationship with me- His child.  He prefers me, He enjoys me, He wants to redeem me.  He honors me.  He ’s proud to call me His.

And my response to Him is the same.  Because I’m motivated by His Love, and not by “doing  enough” just to stay out of trouble.

For me, one of the worst tragedies in this earthly life would be to know Jesus without having a deep and abiding relationship with Him.  To never know if you’ve “done enough” to please God.  Jesus already did “the enough” on the Cross.  I just have to accept His love and grace.

And, therefore,  I walk this journey in abiding peace.

No matter what happens.

One of my favorite CD’s is The Sweet Life by Cherie Adams.  This is an excerpt from one of my favorite songs.

You give me such a sweet life
A joy like I’ve never known.
When You rescued my heart from the storm.

And now I see
What Your love means to me.
It’s such a sweet life.

May You Know Christ’s Love For YOU Today and Always,

You Glow, Girl!

We’re having our first few days of really warm weather- doesn’t mean the wind isn’t blowing 9-0- but the sun is shining and it is upwards to 84 degrees.

Gotta love it.

‘Cuz it might be snowing next weekend.

This is, after all, West Texas.

Nonetheless, this gets me all excited for Sun  Season.

If you’re a Bed Bug, don’t tell me.  Although, I’ve been known to steal a “base tan” in a fakn’ bake bed, I try to avoid them these days.  They’re just too dangerous for my goblin skin.

So, what do I do?  Well, what else would you expect me to do?

I FAKE IT!

Some tips for Sunless Tanning-  feel free to consider me your Online Source of Friendly Reminders and Bossy How-To’s.  Like that advice you used to get from your great-grandma after she’s had a few too many nips of gin.

Sunless Tanning Skillz According to Sassy Gal (who hasn’t been nippin’ gin):

1.  Exfoliation is the key to the glow.  I use the Equate brand Apricot Scrub before I shave.  It gently removes all dead skin and allows your razor to get closer to the skin for a smoother shave.  Trust me, this works.  I used to do the scrub after I shaved.  Why?  I don’t know.  It just seemed reasonable.  Until I became a Sassy Gal.  Then, I learned the truth.

2.  Shave.  This step is a must.  Hairy legs just aren’t conducive to Sunless Tanning.  Or anything else for that matter.  So, for the love of all things bright, beautiful, and holy- PLEASE shave.

3.  Moisture.  I recommend mixing moisturizer 1:1 with your sunless tanning cream.  If you are using a sunless tanning spray, wait a few hours after moisturizing OR don’t moisturize beforehand.  Use your moisturizer a few hours afterwards, too.

Sunless products dry your skin.

SUPER IMPORTANT FOR SPRAY-ONS:  EVEN IF IT SAYS NOT TO, you must rub and blend after application or it will streak.  Do NOT listen to the manufacturers who write “no rubbing required”.  They’re probably men.  Love The Men, but they don’t always have the most developed Sunless Tanning Skillz.

4.  Apply the Sunless Tanning poison of choice (just a figure of speech.  Not really poison.  I promise.) daily until your desired color is achieved.  Stick with it.  You can do all of the above steps several times until you get the color your heart desires.

You can buy Sunless Tanning Cream containing moisturizer.  The only thing is this kind sometimes takes a few more days to develop.

Like this….

LOVE IT!

So when you feel like rollin’ it  B-I-G  Time, well,  YO.

Here it is.

‘Cuz every Sassy Gal should have a little 24K in her arsenal.

Shinin’ On,

PS….what are you doing in remembrance of Christ’s Death and Resurrection this week?  We are studying the story in our children’s bible.  And, we’re lookin’ at these….Resurrection Eggs.  Last year I attended a Stations of the Cross service here.  It was such a blessing.  I am so thankful for what Jesus did on the Cross for me.  How can you put into words your thankfulness when someone gives their life for you?   Thank you, Jesus- especially because I don’t deserve it.  Unfathomable mercy.

I ♥ Rimmel Lipstick

I have officially started the “I ♥ Rimmel Lipstick” Fan Club.  I bet there are some more of you out there.

If so, HOLLA!!

2154085

Anyway, I love it for several reasons.

1.  IT’S CHEAP! (We’re talkin’ some major bang-for-your-cosmetic-buck)
2.  The color choices are tres chic.
3.  It goes on very true and opaque (these are not sheer, dainty lipsticks for the weak-of-heart.  These are Country Girl lippies if there ever were such thing.  They’re sturdy and true)
4.  Did I mention they’re EL CHEAPO (as in price, not quality.)

So, I own……..

Crush, Celeb, and Airy Fairy

If you need a cheap little pick-me-up or you are looking for your signature lipstick, I suggest you look no further than Rimmel.

Found in most drugstores, chains, and grocery stores.

FABULOUS.

(BTW, if you didn’t know this, lighter and brighter shades of lipstick make you look Y-O-U-N-G-E-R.  Yes, younger.  Do it now.  NO MORE dark browns, plums, or mauves UNLESS you have a warm, dark skintone.  You mocha, olive, and honey skin-toned girls are the ONLY ones allowed to wear these colors!  Do you hear your Sassy Gal?  ☺)

Love always even if I am bossy about lipstick,

Weekend Project- A Sassy Gal Becomes a Crafter (I Know, Right?!)

So, let me tell you how excited I am about this!!!

SUPER excited!

I bought this stuff last week and I had NO idea how it would work out.  I found the idea here and here- from Fabulous K- who I adore!  Her blog is so cute and I love her because she’s a RED RAIDER fan, too!!!!  AND,  she’s incredibly talented.  You might be seeing some of her handiwork around here one of these days!

So, here ya go……

collageart

(I know.  I’m still working on the throw pillows but I did get the cute floral one at World Market- my new love!)

collageart1

I got blank, white canvases (18 X 24) at Hobby Lobby for 30% off (holla!).    I got LOTS (about 15 sheets of 6-7 coordinating prints)  o’ scrapbooking paper that I liked.  I Mod Podged them onto the canvas.  Then I got brown acrylic paint, watered it down on a paper plate, and commenced to painting it on with the kids’ watercolor paintbrush and wiping it off with a paper towel.  It was craziness.  But, it turned out SO cute.  And I am so grateful to Fabulous K for the idea!

When Uno saw it all hung up, he said, “It looks sort of old-timey.  But, it’s cool.”

My thoughts exactly.

Showing the decorating-on-a-dime love,

Colossal Happenings

I grocery shopped last night at Tarjay, honey!  I’ve never really grocery shopped there, but the store was almost empty and it was SO nice.

You know I love my WalMart, but the ease of shopping at Tarjay?  FAB, I say.

TOTAL FAB.

And their prices are comparable on many things.  BUT, they don’t carry produce.  Nothing a 10-minute stop at the grocer couldn’t cure.

All-in-all, I probably saved 20 minutes or so, but retaining my sanity?

PRICELESS.

So, I was low on mascara and just happened to see this great display showing several types/brands of mascara and what they “do”.  And I’ve always had a decent amount of length to my lashes, but could always use some VOLUME.

Well, I grabbed this…..

300

And guess what I got?  Yeah, this……

colossal

I have to say I’m impressed.

This was 1 light coat and 2 heavier coats.

And, I ♥ Maybelline Colossal Volum’ Express.

WOO HOO.

What a great way to start a weekend.

Sugars,

Rockstar Rose By Any Other Name Would Smell Just As Sweet

Several late nights, a doctor visit and a couple of shots, and a long couple of days in The Big City= TIRED SASSY GAL

So sorry this post is a little late!  We’ve been in The Big City for Busta’s Well Check (and a shot for each kid :(   )when Big Daddy’s grandmother was air-lifted in to the Heart Hospital.  They can’t seem to figure out what is givin’ her heart such fits, but we are praying for knowledge for her doctor and healing for her body.   Thank you, Jesus, that we can ask for healing because you took care of it on the cross.

Isaiah 53:5
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions,
       he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was upon him,
and by his wounds we are healed.

I hate to rush around here but I’ll make today’s note quick…..I found something else to satisfy my Sweet Love for Lady Rose.

Who knew one could share the Love of Rose with their ‘pits?

Well, they’ve never smelled sweeter.

Off to love on my sweet boys,

Eye Scream For Eye Cream

Well, it’s finally happened to me.

For a long time, I could see why we should wear eye cream…I mean, of course I am getting the little (power of positive thinking, right?)  crow’s feet and laugh lines, but it was never been enough to convince me to be consistent with my eye cream application.

Until now.

You see, I was a Mary Kay Sales Director for five years.  And I learned SO much about skin care and makeup application, but at the time I didn’t have a deep and abiding desire or love for eye cream.

But now I do.

Oh, blissful youth.  Why do you elude me?

Oh, yeah, because you were great then, but now I have a little more wisdom and discernment which leads to peace and serenity.  And one Big Daddy and two Killer B’s that I wouldn’t trade for all of the wrinkle-freeness in the world.

And I don’t really care too much to revisit the follies of my youth.

Oh, they were many.

So, here’s the 4-1-1:

1.  My eyelids were getting crepe-y and uber-dry.  Eye makeup was not going on verra smoothly.  Oh, tragedy.

2.  Those crow’s feet and laugh lines deepen just a little more each month.

What to do:

1.  Find a great eyecream.  I have been using Mary Kay Firming Eye Cream.  It is fabulous, but I’m sure there are lots of really great ones out there.

My personal suggestions/what I would look at if I were at Tarjay, honey:
Olay, Neutrogena, L’oreal

What I would scope out if I were at Dillard’s/Bloomingdale’s/Nordstrom/Macy’s/higher-end dept store:
Clinique, Estee Lauder, Lancome, Shiseido

Other great brands:
Avon- their “Anew” line gets great reviews.  It broke me out due to my fussy, acne-prone skin.

Mary Kay- The eye cream that does it all: firms, brightens, provides intense moisturization and minimizes fine lines and wrinkles. In a 12-week clinical study, 96 percent of participants showed an improvement in the overall appearance of the skin around their eyes. (retails for $30)

APPLICATION SKILLZ INCLUDE:

ALWAYS use your ring finger for eye cream application.

BE CAREFUL not to get the cream too close to your eyeball.  It will burn.

APPLY cream above browbone, on eyelid, and under-eye at night.  Don’t forget the corners being careful not to get too close to your eye.
I only apply my eye cream at night because I have oily skin and eye cream messes with my eyeshadow.  I find that a good, high-powered hydrating cream applied at night only is doing the trick for me right now.

Now, go forth and firm and smooth your eyelids!

Or look forward to the day you’ll have to.  Until then, enjoy 17 less seconds of required “me” time!

Love,
